It’s a real shame to waste a Pumpkin on Halloween because they are full of goodness. This year we’ve at least saved the seeds and have roasted and eaten them (see the recipe below). I’m also boiling up the pumpkin guts and goo and some of the pumpkin flesh which was cut out with a simple recipe adding eggs, ginger powder, cinnamon, eggs, cloves, salt and brown sugar, so nothing is wasted. The actual Pumpkin will stay outside and end up on the compost heap, but here’s a great tip, on Monday the stores will likely be selling of their Pumpkins cheaply so buy up a few and start baking Pumpkins!

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds Recipe
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Separate the seeds from the guts. Using your hands, pick out the seeds and lay them on a buttered or greased baking sheet. Do not rinse them! This removes a lot of the flavor. Bake for 10 minutes. Salt before eating.

The melon has an amazing number of health benefits, and is also a healthy gentle way to eat. I know someone who always does an annual melon cure (i.e. only eats Melons for a week), but no need to go that far. When you eat melon you get liquids, minerals, fiber, vitamins, trace elements and they’re delicious.

There are two types of Melon Sweet Melons and Water Melons. The Water Melon (Red Flesh , large seeds) has the more subtle but finer taste. But in fact there are many different varieties within these sub-divisions, Cantaloupes, Honey Dew, Christmas Melons etc look out for them in good stores and markets.

If you are the homemaker you can do a lot to encourage your family to eat these fruits by careful preparation. One great way is to cut them into cubes and chill in the fridge.

I was glancing through an otherwise good diet book and then I saw a warning “Not to Eat Too Much Fruit” because fruit contains Fructose, that was enough for me, it confirmed my opinion that dieting is a MISTAKE our ONLY HOPE is to learn to EAT PROPERLY.

I mean take fruit, did you ever hear anyone say “He’s fat because he EATS TOO MUCH FRUIT“? no he’s fat because he eats Burgers and Fries. If we eat real food like Fruit, Vegetables, Grains, Nuts, Real Bread, quality meat etc, stuff that arrives from the farm, shop or market with may be a bit of earth on it we would struggle to eat enough to get fat.

The junk food that our EYES desire never fills you just makes you hungry again in a short while. So get eating Mangoes, Oranges, Kiwis, Ugli fruit, Sharon Fruit, Pomegranates there are so many exotic and delicious varieties today.

Every time you eat a fruit instead of a sandwich or a cookie or a burger you are winning the battle!

In a way this is a struggle for survival!

** Exception don’t eat too many Bananas as they are nearly a food and are eaten by endurance sportsmen/women
