Wonderful Melons Have It All

October 17th, 2009 · health, healthy food

The melon has an amazing number of health benefits, and is also a healthy gentle way to eat. I know someone who always does an annual melon cure (i.e. only eats Melons for a week), but no need to go that far. When you eat melon you get liquids, minerals, fiber, vitamins, trace elements and they’re delicious.

There are two types of Melon Sweet Melons and Water Melons. The Water Melon (Red Flesh , large seeds) has the more subtle but finer taste. But in fact there are many different varieties within these sub-divisions, Cantaloupes, Honey Dew, Christmas Melons etc look out for them in good stores and markets.

If you are the homemaker you can do a lot to encourage your family to eat these fruits by careful preparation. One great way is to cut them into cubes and chill in the fridge.

How Often Should You Water Aloe Vera?

September 30th, 2009 · aloe vera

Aloe Vera can live up to seven years without water but can be killed in a much shorter time by over watering. But how much watering is too much? Well let’s say if you are a consistent organized person who always remembers to water their plants then there is a danger you will over water, however if you are a forgetful student-like who only occasionally remembers to water you will have healthier plants.

That said I put my Aloe Vera plants outside for the whole summer and I have seem them swimming in water without seeming to harm them. In winter I shall water sparingly may be only 3 times.

September 7th, 2009 · Uncategorized

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about these pipes, and of course they are completely natural.

  • %100 natural way to address the symptoms of respiratory ailments such as:Colds, Sneezing, Coughing, Asthma, Shortness of Breath, Allergies, C.O.P.D Related Ailments, Respiratory Problems from Smoking, Bronchitis and Hay Fever
  • This porcelain device is based on Speleo/Halo Therapy (cave and salt therapy). The ORIGINAL THERAPIPE crystal salt is from ancient European salt mines 20-22 million years old and the caverns are visited by thousands of people each year
  • You simply inhale the Aroma Therapipe’s salty air through your mouth and exhale through your nose, breathing normally. When the cleansing process starts, it is normal for some coughing and sneezing to occur. It is recommended that you use the Aroma Therapipe for 20 minutes a day for 3 weeks. It does not need to be in one sitting, two 10 minute sessions are fine. The Aroma Therapipe is effective for up to 5(+) years of daily use without a refill.
  • A new day has dawned for the many people who want an alternative to drugs for their respiratory problems. The revolutionary Aroma Therapipe brings the benefits of the salt mine therapy right into your home. Children can also use it, but be aware that it is porcelain and breakable if mishandled. It is recommended that each Aroma Therapipe be used by only one person therefore they are “color coded.”

What’s Wrong with this Pretty Aloe Vera?

August 21st, 2009 · Uncategorized

I bought this Aloe Vera for my French mother-in-law. It was a cheaty present because I wanted there to be an Aloe Vera plant when I visit to sooth my sunburns and scratches when ever we visit.

What is Wrong with this Aloe Vera Plant?

What is Wrong with this Aloe Vera Plant?

Well the pot is too small, it needs re-potting into the largest clay pot you care to use.

Pot with a seed starting mixture at a garden center or a bag of peat moss sphagnum mixed 50/50% with Perlite, or a bag of cactus mix.

A Reader’s Long-Term Experience of Aloe Vera

August 9th, 2009 · health

I began using aloe vera for sunburns about 20 years ago. Soon after I also began to use it as an after shower
moisturizer, for my face in particular. Skin tends to feel rather tight and dry following a shower. This became part of
my routine and I haven’t looked back. For 20+ years now following every shower … occasionally at other times during
the day I have been using aloe. I have always liked the fact that it was natural, non-greasy and essentially disappeared
about five minutes after using with no residue leaving your skin properly moisturized. Evidence suggests that aloe
provides significant benefits far exceeding simple sunburn treatments. This seems to be backed up by the fact that
island residents where aloe is prevalent and used regularly tend to have skin looking years younger than the user’s true
My preference is towards the more natural. Aloe from the plant is a clear gel – not green as many products show it. I suppose some manufacturers have made it green because that color is either expected or more pleasing in some way but if you are looking for natural you want it clear and as close to 100% aloe vera as is possible. Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera fills the bill on all fronts. 100% aloe vera, no added color, no added alcohol etc. It has become our house favorite.
Side note: at the time I began using it I was not seeking a youth potion, just a way of getting rid of that tight dry feeling following a shower. I don’t know if credit belongs with the aloe, heredity, luck or some combination but my skinappears quite a bit younger than my age should dictate. Take that for what it is.

(posted previously as a comment by Pauline) I note she also appreciates that when you use natural Aloe Vera Gel it seems to leave no trace at all!

Take Aloe Vera on Vacation!

July 23rd, 2009 · Uncategorized

It’s on vacation that we tend to suffer the most sun burns, insect bites, scrapes, scratches, chafing, rashes etc, so don’t forget to pack a big fat lower Aloe Vera leaf in a light cloth and put pack it in your suitcase. The raw natural gel will at the least soothe if not cure most of your skin complaints. Just cut off a short section from your leaf, trim any spikes, then cut open and gently rub the Aloe Vera gel on to the sore spot, get proper medical treatment for anything serious of course.

Oh and remember to have a great vacation.

Aloe Vera and Blisters

June 21st, 2009 · health, health care

I normally don’t get blisters from walking but I’ve got new hiking boots and didn’t wear the proper thick socks. Anyway I got this blister on the back of one heels and it stung in the shower. I immediately applied gel from a freshly cut section of Aloe Vera leaf this soothed the sting and now as I write this (next morning) I am just fine.

(Blisters that appear for no obvious reason (i.e. after a hike) may require attention from a doctor)

The Brilliant Propaganda for Cigarette Smoking

June 13th, 2009 · health

The war against cigarette smoking is apparently won; smokers may as is their right still smoke but are no longer permitted to poison others in the workplace or public places. It has taken at least 50 years for us to reach this happy state.

Read www.tobacco.org/resources/history/ for a history of the war for and against tobacco smoking.

Apparently there was initially a general panic when the first Government Reports linked cigarettes to lung cancer. However the Tobacco Industry Research Committee (TIRC) soon calmed this with a series of adverts and “bought” articles in the press
to quote the above

TIRC releases “A SCIENTIFIC PERSPECTIVE ON THE CIGARETTE CONTROVERSY,” a booklet quoting 36 scientists questioning smoking’s link to health problems.
(The booklet) was sent to 176,800 doctors, general practitioners and specialists . . . (plus) deans of medical and dental colleges . . . a press distribution of 15,000 . . . 114 key publishers and media heads . . . . days in advance, key press, network, wire services and columnist contacts were alerted by phone and in person . . . and . . . hand-delivered (with) special placement to media in Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. The story was carried by hundreds of papers and radio stations throughout the country . . . . staff-written stories (were) developed with the help of Hill & Knowlton, Inc. field offices. (Hill & Knowlton memo, May 3, 1954.)

These campaigns were brilliantly effective in causing doubt and confusion and even more importantly weariness in the general public to any kind of health warnings at all.

So smokers continued to die young, non-smokers working in airless offices with with smokers also died (to quote a relation: “You could hardly see the far wall of the office for smoke haze”)

Aloe Vera and Rubbing Sores from Sport

May 25th, 2009 · Uncategorized

I am in training for my Hadrian’s Walk Charity Walk and did a six hour walk in hot weather over the downs it was tough going but my worst problem was chapping sores where the top of my thighs were rubbing. I got home and cut a section of Aloe Vera leaf and spread the gel on my sores. I got instant relief and hope to be sore free by tomorrow morning; will let you know.

Next day report, I am stunned how much better my sores are, I am not aware of them at all although they still look red and must have been close to blistering, another success for natural Aloe Vera Gel

I got home very tired and dehydrated so I ate a bunch of grapes which was an ideal way to get sugars, liquids, fibers and minerals back into my system, and was also delicious!
